Station To Station for Levis

20.September 2013

You might recognized that it was the 3rd time for me this year going to the United States. This time I got invited by Levis to document the Station To Station Art project for iGNANT. For this happening the brand collaborated with artist Doug Aitken and sent a train from New York to Oakland / San Francisco. We had the chance to take part at the KickOff event in Brooklyn and travel over to Pittsburgh to join the first stop of the train.

The train itself was amazing and the same train Frank Sinatra used to travel through the States for his concerts. It was fitted with different wagons like a fully equipped music studio, production area, lounge and so on. Artists like Ariel Pink, Chloe Sevigny, Urs Fischer or Olafur Eliasson had the chance to travel with the train and present their work on the evening stops. It was amazing to hang out there and you nearly could feel the late summer wind breeze and the dust of the american main land while traveling.

In front of the station in Pittsburgh they build up old yurt tents where you could find different installations like the mirror tent of Urs Fischer (watch out for a short Photoshooting I did there with Tobias of Bonaparte). At night we saw live shows of Ariel Pink and the haunted Graffitis, Suicide and many more.

This is Jakob of german fashion Blog Dandy Diary.

Check Check. Chloe Sevigny and the Bassist of Ariel Pink.

One of my most fav. shots of the trip. Tobias of Bonaparte in the yurt tent of Urs Fischer.

Thanks Levis and Christian for the nice time and make sure to follow Station To Station over at their website. I’m excited about the output of the train until it arrives in San Francisco next week.

Another Tumblr? Ohhhh yezz! But this one is special. It’s about my own photography only. I don’t know why I didn’t decide to do this earlier next to my snapshot Iphone Travel and pivate tumblrs, but I really already love it! It’s great to scroll through more than 40k pictures in my Lightroom library and find more and more pics I like and present them in this ongoing collage! Make sure to follow me over there and watch out for new pictures on a regular update!

During one of our last trips to New York we met the bros of Street Etiquette in Brooklyn and spent a day with them hanging out in the city. It was quite special for Martin and me because they took us to some really cool places like their old High School up in the Bronx. Watch the film I edited from this day to check out more and make sure to jump over to Street Etiquette to learn more about the amazing style of Travis & Joshua. See some more pictures of this day after the jump.  Read more…

We shot Jin Kim of Bread & Butter and his amazing Pendleton Coat for ABOUTNOW. See the video here and more pics after the jump…  Read more…

In the last years New York City somehow got my most visited city outside of Berlin. I mean I have been there more often than in my hometown or any other city in Germany or Europe. I won’t call it my second home but whenever I arrive there I feel like being back to a place I know very well. I enjoy diving into this metropolis, visit my friends and the neighborhoods I love hanging out. I don’t have the tourist view anymore (just whenever I ride the J or N train over Manhattan or Williamsburg Bridge), I don’t need to go sightseeing and when I move through the city I feel very “New Yorkian” . So I also recognized that in terms of my photography I am not interested in picturing the obvious anymore. I am more likely searching for my personal New York moments, people I meet or that are catching my attention in the streets. I think breaking a city down it very much comes to those people living in this city and the small impessions you get on the corners of your neighborhood. I hope you like the pictures. Read more…

Even though planes got my second home in the last years I will never loose the fascination for the incredible view onto our beautiful earth. I just love the geometrical shapes, the graphical play, the light, the water, the ice, the clouds. I took these pictures on my last journey through the United States. I have even more videos of these views and I’ll maybe cut them together whenever I will have time someday.  Read more…

I guess I have never seen a city like Detroit. Away from the Business we have been there for Nico and me where exploring the city and of course couldn’t withstand to go to some places where probably most people wouldn’t set foot in. It’s a city with a big history and a city that got hit like no other! It’s a place where a concept failed and millions of people lost the foundations of their life! At the same time it’s a place to dream of. A chance to grow again and make it better this time. We are curious about the way Detroit will go but we are definitely sure that this wasn’t our last visit!  Read more…

DT64 at Haw-LIN

12.November 2013

I´m on Haw-Lin Motherfuckaaasz!

I can’t remember for how long I follow the Moodboard. It must been 4 years at least. It soon became a huge inspiration for all of us and you could say getting shown at Haw-Lin is a real honor. I really thought about to submit pictures to them but it always felt like cheating and so I kept calm and waited for them to choose. Now they chose a picture from my Analog Brasil series. It pictures my suitcase right before it gets boarded to bring us back to the mainland from Ilha Grande. I like the picture even though I much more want to know why they chose this one in particular. But whatever – they chose it and I´m happy :)))

In this context I also watched the portrait Nico and me shot about Jakob and Nathan two years ago. I still like it. So thanks boys, and you gotta tell me the reason over the next beer. I pay! Cheers.

Brasil Analog

5.November 2013

Yeah – I needed a TimeOut. No Phonerings, No Updates, nothing what you may miss somewhere in town. It wasn’t about exploring new places or getting new inspiration. I much more needed something like a Meditation. Some Place to hide, read and sleep. The only way I truly could experience this kind of time was to say Bye to everything electronic surrounding me and keep it analog for two weeks. I was excited how this experiment will affect me, if I miss something or if I get bored to death?! Nothing of this happend. It was the best thing I could have done and I promise as long as I travel for private reasons I keep my phone on flight mode.

I also left my DSLR at home so I could not have had the chance to get myself into the Frame-Mode and look for the best pictures to capture everywhere. So I just brought my analog Olympus with me and 3 films to snap some pics for the album.

I wanna thank my love Nadine for this amazing holiday and the good times we had! Never laughed that much in years! I miss you already and can’t wait to have you back in Europe some day! I also wanna thank Anton for letting us mess up his amazing apartment in Rio de Janeiro. Check out his amazing artworks over here! If you need some Tips & Tricks for Brasil and some nice spots – just let me know! One Love!  Read more…
